Questions From The NAACP Forum

The NAACP Forum at the new Galesburg Public Library was well attended. It was held on Monday, September 23rd, and was sponsored by the NAACP of Galesburg, Tri-States Public Radio, and WGIL radio. Tom Martin, former editor of the Galesburg Register-Mail was the moderator and asked the questions.

Whenever there is such a forum and you give your answer, there is a time limit to how long you can speak. Inevitably you end up wishing that you had said just a little more about each answer, so here I am, adding to my answers from that night.

Question 1: What top concerns are facing Knox County and what policies can the board adopt to help all communities in Knox County thrive?

My answer was that we need to continue to support law enforcement in the efforts to reduce crime. Local law enforcement agencies must have the tools to continue taking illegal guns and drugs off the streets of our county. We also need to give the Mary Davis Home the resources that they need to turn around the kids that commit crimes.
